Coating Services

Southcross Custom Fabrication has the in-house capacity to perform various coating procedures with several different materials and distinct characteristics.

We have the equipment and the expertise to deliver high-quality powder coating, painting, and pre-treating. Our coating services include, but are not limited to, epoxy, water-based and epoxy prime and finish, powder coating, polyurethane finish, zinc plating, yellow chromate and more. In addition, our coatings can be applied to a variety of substrate materials such as alloy steels, aluminum, and much more.

Design / Specifications

Each of our coatings has unique characteristics that make them ideal for achieving certain product properties. Our range of materials can deliver the following benefits:

  • Abrasion resistance
  • Abrasiveness
  • Enhanced color
  • Condensation resistance
  • Emissivity
  • High purity
  • High temperature
  • Insulating
  • Thermal barrier
  • Thermal protection

Preparation and Application

Before applying coating, your parts must receive pre-treatment for proper coating adhesion. Southcross Custom Fabrication uses a five-stage inline pre-treatment system that is divided into the following five stages:

  1. Removal of all oil and debris
  2. Rinsing to remove residue
  3. Spraying on non-metallic phosphate coating to inhibit corrosion and enhance adhesion for the powder coat
  4. Rinsing the part again
  5. Applying a final seal treatment to further increase corrosion resistance

The powder coating application process involves both the application of powder and baking (curing). Coating is applied by spraying it onto the part with an electrostatic gun. The coated part is then baked at a high temperature to achieve proper cure.

Production Volumes & Lead Times

We can provide coated parts for our clients in volumes of one up to 50,000 parts per year. Our specialty production shop can produce prototypes or single parts for special applications; and we can ramp up to large-scale production — all at the same facility.

Most projects can be completed in as quickly as 2-3 days, but the exact lead-time depends on the scope of the project. We quote lead-times on a job-by-job basis. We also offer emergency or rush services to drastically shorten lead-times if necessary.
